10 Nov 2009 : Rankin's Becomes an ECB Focus Club
I am very pleased to announce that our cricket club has been selected by the ECB to become a Focus Club. This means we have been recognised as serious cricket provider and promoter for the community.
ECB Focus Club Definition
A Cricket Club that:
- Is affiliated to the ECB via the County Board
- Is committed to achieving the objectives within Building Partnerships
- Will work in partnership with ECB, the County Board, Schools and the Community to deliver high quality agreed development plan outcomes
- Has achieved or is committed to achieving and maintaining Clubmark Accreditation evidencing that they are a safe, effective and child friendly Club
- Has a development plan that has been approved by the County Board and is reviewed and updated on an annual basis
It's great news for the club to be awarded this accreditation and follows on from last years hard work in becoming clubmark accredited.
This could have only been achieved by the hard work being carried out behind the scenes by everyone from players to parents, committee members and especially our coaching staff and support from the Greensward Academy School.
I know from being involved that everyone is happy to help where they can and to promote cricket to local children and see the club thrive is just great.

25 May 2009 : Raj Patel stars in 3rd XI first victory at Hullbridge!!
Rankins 3rd X1 win first game
Rankins chased down 188 to guarantee a 3 wicket win. With about 5 overs to spare. Rankins bowled first and all bowlers kept down the run-rate. Carl Lynch finishing off with great figures of 12 overs 3 maidens 3 wickets for 36 runs. With Leon Kawa bowling economically well with 7 overs 1 maiden for 22 runs. Some neat catches were taken, with Marc Cameron taking a low catch off Will Nolde at wicket-keeper. Sean Pickering taking a close catch and Peter Nolde taking a nice catch as well. Also early a great piece of fielding from Will Nolde which produced a direct hit from a throw from the boundary. Though Rankins will be a little disspointed that while we had them 85-5 at one stage we didnt contain or limit their runs.
Batting and Peter Nolde and Will Nolde opening up, Peter Nolde fell early on after being caught at gully after, leaving us on 20 runs. Will Nolde then followed 20 runs later by playing on. Raj Patel meanwhile was starting his amazing innings of 61 as he notched himself his first fifty of the season (plenty more to come raj, no pressure). Steve Heron stayed with Raj to produce a nice little partnership, to leave us well on course for victory. With Marc Cameron finishing the innings of nicely with 20 not out.
18 May 2009 : 1st XI tie with Hatfield & 2nd/3rd XI lose this weekend
Matches between the 1st XI and Hatfield always tend to be closely battled affairs and this was to be no exception ending in a tie!
Batting first we posted 153 for 8 from our 45 overs. The conditions were difficult early on but a partnership of 87 between Gregg Dutton (31) and a superb 76 from Matthew Tindall saw us go to 95 for 2 and things were looking respectable. The rest struggled and eventualy we edged our way to our total of 153 which never really looked enough.
Hatfield started brightly with openers Hills (31) and Wright (25) getting their run chase off to a good start. After a couple of quick wickets Norton came out to bat at 5 for Hatfield and took the bowling attack on with a rapid 52 before falling to Deepak Nanda in the first wicket of his 5 wicket haul (5-29 off 12 overs).
A succession of quick wickets, aided by four catches from Paul Rafferty then changed the game and it looked like any result was possible with Rankin's fighting back and the last pair of Hatfield batsmen Crane and Bently needing 20 runs.
Scott Simmons the captain brought himself back on to bowl with Hatfield needing just two for victory. His first ball going for a bye to level the scores on 153. His next ball was full and straight and saw Cranes middle stump removed to bring the game to an end and the match tied.
The second XI this weekend narrowly lost to Ekco but the day was crowned with a superb 130 from Daryl Greenfield. See fixtures for full scorecards for all teams.
12 May 2009 : U15's beat Wickford to reach round 3 in the cup!
Batting first saw a superb opening partnership of 110 by Carl Lees and Anthony Steel, Steel on his debut at the opening spot. Carl fell just short of his half centuary on 47 and Anthony was eventually run out on 26. The team then posted a very respectable 120 for 2 off the 20 overs.
In the field Rankins were sharp and Anthony steel topped off his day with two catches.Wickford were left 13 runs short with good performances from all the Rankin's bowling attack. The outstanding performances with the ball coming from Max Davis (4-14) and Adam Mayhew (2-23). Sean Druce and Carl Lees both took a wicket each and Wickford were left on 103 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs.
A really top performance from the U15's against a well respected Wickford side. Well done and good luck in round 3!
