Over the weekend of Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March, Rankin’s came together for Get Set Weekend...and what a weekend it was!
With more than 50 volunteers getting stuck in across the two days, the club was buzzing with activity. From the morning through to early afternoon, there was a real sense of energy, teamwork and shared purpose as everyone worked together to get the ground ready for the season ahead.
What we got done
Thanks to such a strong turnout, we were able to take on a huge range of jobs across the clubhouse and grounds.
Some of the bigger wins included replacing the decking to make it safe and secure, repairing and reinstating the balustrade, and fixing the net wall. These were important jobs that make a real difference to how safely and confidently people can use the space.
Inside the clubhouse, there was a full clear-out and deep clean effort. The kitchen was sorted (including tackling a long-forgotten freezer!), the bar was cleaned and prepped, and storage areas were cleared, organised and made much more usable.
Outside, it was all hands on deck. Covers were cleaned and brought out, gutters cleared, screens washed and maintained, and general repairs carried out across the site. There was also plenty of groundwork going on, from mowing and seeding to machinery checks and tip runs.
Put simply, we got through an incredible amount of work in a short space of time.
A quick note on safety
One of the key focuses of the weekend was making the club safer for everyone, and that’s something we all have a role in keeping on top of.
Now that improvements like the new decking and repaired balustrade are in place, we’d ask all members and visitors to continue to take care around the clubhouse area, especially where there are edges or changes in level.
If you spot anything that doesn’t look quite right, please flag it. Ongoing maintenance and regular checks will continue, but extra eyes always help.
We’ll also be looking at further improvements over time, including clearer finishes and potential upgrades where needed, to keep raising the standard across the ground.
The best part? The people
As much as we achieved physically, the standout part of the weekend was the atmosphere.
It was great to see so many people getting involved - from long-standing members to younger volunteers - all pitching in, helping out and enjoying being part of it. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with plenty of people saying how much they enjoyed it and how good it felt to contribute.
That sense of community is what makes Rankin’s what it is.
