The 2026 season is proving to be another exciting one for youth cricket at Rankin's, with strong participation across all age groups, excellent attendance at training and a growing number of young players developing both their skills and confidence.
This season, the club is fielding Under 9s, Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 15s teams, providing opportunities for young cricketers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game and represent the club.
One of the most encouraging aspects of the season so far has been the enthusiasm shown by players and families alike. Training sessions and matches have been exceptionally well attended, creating a positive and competitive environment where players can challenge themselves while continuing to enjoy the game.
Friday evenings have become a particular highlight of the week. With youth training taking place alongside senior and Rivermaidens activities, the club is buzzing with activity. The bar is open, the BBQ is often fired up and families come together to enjoy everything that makes Rankin's such a special community club. It is fantastic to see so many people around the ground and so many young players developing a love of cricket.
The club continues to welcome new players to the game, many of whom had little or no cricket experience before joining. It has been particularly pleasing to see these players embracing the sport, improving rapidly and becoming valued members of their teams.
At the other end of the pathway, several youth players are continuing to progress into senior cricket, gaining valuable experience alongside established adult players. This progression demonstrates the strength of the club's development pathway and provides younger players with clear examples of what can be achieved through commitment and hard work.
There has also been success beyond the club, with a number of Rankin's players involved in District cricket. Representing their district is a significant achievement and reflects the quality and dedication of the young cricketers coming through the club.
At the foundation of the youth section sits our thriving All Stars programme. With around 25 children taking part this year, All Stars continues to provide a fantastic introduction to cricket for younger boys and girls. The programme focuses on fun, teamwork and developing basic cricket skills, helping young players build confidence while making new friends and enjoying being active.
The positive atmosphere around youth cricket this season has been clear to see. Players are working hard, supporting one another and enjoying healthy competition, while coaches, volunteers and parents continue to create an environment where every child has the opportunity to learn and develop.
With plenty of cricket still to come this summer, there is every reason to be excited about the future. The talent, enthusiasm and enjoyment on display each week show that youth cricket at Rankin's is in excellent health.
