The Rivermaidens is inviting girls and women aged 13 and over to discover cricket in a fun and welcoming environment at a special Rivermaidens in the Making: Bring a Friend Night.
Taking place on Wednesday 1st April during the Rivermaidens’ regular nets session, the evening will give newcomers the opportunity to try softball cricket, meet the team and experience the supportive atmosphere that has helped the Rivermaidens grow in recent seasons.
The session will be supported by Essex Cricket, with the county’s Senior Manager of Female Participation joining the evening to help deliver coaching and introduce new players to the game.
A chance to try cricket for the first time
The event is designed specifically for beginners. No previous cricket experience is required and all equipment will be provided.
Players simply need to wear comfortable sports clothing and trainers and come ready to have a go.
Rivermaidens captain, Ange, said:
“We know that lots of girls and women are curious about cricket but may not have had the chance to try it in a friendly environment.
"Rivermaidens in the Making is all about opening the door and showing that there really is a place for everyone in the game.”
Bring a friend
The evening will run as a Bring a Friend event, encouraging current Rivermaidens to introduce friends, family members and teammates to the sport.
The Rivermaiden who brings the most guests will win a Rankin’s CC goody bag, including a Rankin’s hoodie, incrediball, zinc sun block, a £5 bar voucher and a lucky duck for good measure.
Building the future of girls’ cricket at Rankin’s
The Rivermaidens play softball cricket, a format designed to be accessible, social and enjoyable for players of all abilities. The team is continuing to grow and is keen to welcome new players who want to learn the game and be part of a supportive team environment.
Events like Rivermaidens in the Making are part of the club’s wider commitment to developing women’s and girls’ cricket at Rankin’s and creating opportunities for more people to get involved in the sport.
