A successful match day doesn't just happen when the players arrive.
Behind every home fixture is a team of volunteers helping to get the ground ready before the first ball is bowled and making sure everything is left tidy and secure afterwards.
Whether you're a player, captain, parent or supporter, many hands make light work. If everyone helps with a few jobs, setup and clear down can be completed quickly and efficiently.
Before the game
The following tasks should be completed before play begins:
- Put out the stumps.
- Position the boundary markers.
- Mark the white line around the boundary.
- Install the sightscreen slats.
- Open the pavilion window shutters.
- Open the scoreboard shutter.
- Set up and test the FrogBox.
- Set up the tea tables for both home teams.
- Fill and switch on the hot water urn.
- Prepare drinks for both home teams.
- Switch on the showers.
After the game
Once the match has finished, please help return the ground and pavilion to their normal state by completing the following tasks:
- Bring in and store the stumps.
- Remove and store the sightscreen slats.
- Bring the FrogBox inside and place it on charge.
- Switch off the showers.
- Close and secure the pavilion window shutters.
- Close and secure the scoreboard shutter.
- Tidy and store tea trays.
- Put away the 3rd XI tea table.
- Empty teapots.
- Fill and switch on the dishwasher.
- Collect and dispose of any litter from around the playing area.
Everyone can help
Many of these jobs only take a few minutes, but they make a huge difference to the smooth running of the club. If you're at the ground before or after a game and see something that needs doing, please lend a hand.
Thank you to everyone who helps keep Rankin's looking its best throughout the season.
